Pivot Table Practice Exercises
Pivot tables let you summarise large datasets quickly. In the browser-based simulator we build pivot-table-style summaries using grouping functions such as SUMIFS and COUNTIFS.
What is a pivot table?
A pivot table groups data by one or more fields and calculates an aggregate such as sum, count or average. For example, you can group sales by branch and product category to see which combinations produce the most revenue.
In the online simulator, you create the same summary with formulas:
=SUMIFS(Sales[Amount], Sales[Branch], "Delhi", Sales[Category], "Electronics")Practise grouping and summarising
The Daily Sales MIS Report and Inventory Management Report both ask for category and branch summaries.
Key concepts
- Row fields group the data into categories.
- Values are the numbers being summarised.
- Filters let you focus on a subset of the data.
